It is expected that Sarfaraz Ahmed will be serving as Pakistan’s red-ball coach for the forthcoming away Test series against Bangladesh in May.
It has been mentioned by the sources that there are going to be multiple changes in Pakistan’s test team management ahead of the tour in Bangladesh.
Other additions expected in the test team management include Asad Shafiq, Abdul Sattar and Umar Gul. It is likely that Umar Gul will be taking the role of bowling coach for the test team of Pakistan.
It is expected that soon the Pakistan Cricket Board will make a formal announcement.
The series with Bangladesh will mark Sarfaraz Ahmed’s first assignment with national Pakistani team in a coaching capacity.
For the Pakistani test team, the head coach role has been vacant since October 2025. In the recent series against South Africa Azhar Mehmood served as the interim coach.
The upcoming matches of Pakistan against Bangladesh will be part of the World Test Championship 2027 cycle.
Sarfaraz Ahmed was a wicketkeeper-batsman who had enjoyed a long international career as a player and a captain.
He scored 3031 runs in test cricket. Featured in 54 test matches, made four centuries and 21 half-centuries.
He has also played 117 ODI matches and made 2315 runs in them. He made two centuries and 11 fifties.
Played 61 T20Is and scored 818 runs which included three half-century games.
Sarfaraz Ahmed was also one of the most successful captains in Pakistan’s history. He captained Pakistan during 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and led the team to victory against India in the final.
When he was captain, Pakistan also had a 70 per cent winning rate in ODIs.
The win rate of T20 was even bigger around 78.37 per cent. He won 29 matches out of 37 as a captain.
