Lahore's air quality enters moderate category, AQI recorded at 65

Lahore has recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 65, categorising it as ‘moderate’, which indicates that air quality is generally acceptable but may present a slight risk for individuals who are unusually sensitive.

Although it remains within this classification, pollution levels persist in exceeding the recommended safety limits.

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5), recognised as one of the most dangerous air pollutants due to its capacity to infiltrate deeply into the lungs and bloodstream, was found to be 3.2 times above the annual guideline value established by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Such high concentrations in the air can lead to respiratory and cardiovascular issues, particularly affecting children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.

Experts recommend that while the current air quality in Lahore is not immediately dangerous for the general populace, extended exposure to these pollution levels may still result in negative health consequences.

Citizens, particularly those in vulnerable groups, are advised to minimise outdoor activities during peak pollution times and to implement preventive measures such as wearing masks and using air purifiers indoors.
