No entry on key trails: Islamabad preps for crucial peace talks

Islambad Margalla trails 2 3 4 5 closed talks

District administration in Islamabad has imposed strict restrictions on public movement, closing several key hiking trails as the capital prepares to host crucial peace talks between the United States and Iran.

According to a notification issued by the district administration, Trails 2, 3, 4, and 5, along with the route behind Saidpur Village, will remain closed to the public from April 20 until further notice. The decision has been taken as part of heightened security measures ahead of the high-level diplomatic engagement expected to take place in the city.

Officials say the move is aimed at ensuring the safety of visiting delegations and maintaining strict control over sensitive areas near the Margalla Hills. Law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert, with increased deployment in and around key locations across the capital.

The upcoming talks are being seen as a significant development amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Islamabad has emerged as a neutral venue for dialogue, with both sides expected to discuss de-escalation and potential pathways toward a broader agreement.

Residents and regular hikers have been advised to avoid the restricted areas and cooperate with authorities during this period. While the closures may cause temporary inconvenience, officials stress that such measures are necessary given the importance and sensitivity of the talks.

Security is also being tightened in other parts of the city, including major routes and the red zone, as Islamabad prepares to host what could be a decisive round of negotiations.
