The Meteorological Department has predicted rain, windstorms and thunderstorms in various parts of the country from April 24 to 29.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the current weather trend is consistent with its seasonal forecast issued several months ago, pointing toward a phase of extreme climatic conditions. The authority has also issued a comprehensive outlook covering expected weather patterns from April to June.
The advisory states that Sindh, southern Punjab and parts of Balochistan are likely to face intense heatwave conditions. Major cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan and Turbat are expected to remain under severe heat.
Temperatures are also expected to rise significantly in central Punjab and some areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
At the same time, another weather system is likely to bring dust storms, strong winds and rainfall to upper and central regions on April 24, 25 and 29. Areas including Murree, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Lahore, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan may receive rain during these days.
In Balochistan, northern areas such as Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat and Khuzdar are expected to experience rainfall along with gusty winds between April 24 and 25 and April 27 to 29. However, coastal areas like Gwadar are likely to remain hot and dry, with temperatures gradually increasing.
Sindh is expected to continue experiencing hot and dry weather overall, although light rain and strong winds are likely in Hyderabad, Badin and Mithi on April 24.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may also see intermittent rain and gusty winds in districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat and Kurram during April 24 to 25 and April 27 to 29.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are also forecast to receive intermittent rain and thunderstorms from April 24 to 29.
The NDMA has warned that the ongoing heatwave could increase the risk of heatstroke, dehydration and other health issues. Citizens are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, stay hydrated and take necessary precautions.
Authorities have instructed relevant departments to activate heatwave response measures, set up cooling centres and keep hospitals on high alert. Provincial and district administrations have also been directed to remain vigilant and ready to handle any emergencies arising from the changing weather conditions.
