PIEAS alumnus Sualeh Asif set for $60bn deal with Musk's SpaceX

An alumnus of the STEM Careers Programme, a joint initiative of PIEAS (administered by the Atomic Energy Commission of Pakistan) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Sualeh Asif is making global headlines as his co-founded AI startup Cursor moves toward a potential $60 billion acquisition deal with SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk.

Founded in 1967 as Reactor School from the sponsorship of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission

Sualeh has emerged as one of Pakistan’s leading tech entrepreneurs. His startup Cursor, an artificial intelligence-powered coding platform, has gained global traction and is now reportedly linked to one of the largest tech acquisition deals in recent years.

Before his entrepreneurial success, Sualeh represented Pakistan at the International Mathematics Olympiad multiple times, securing a bronze medal in 2017. His performance at the prestigious competition played a key role in his admission to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he further honed his skills.

Adding to his achievements, Sualeh Asif has also been featured in the Forbes Billionaires List 2026, showing the massive success of Cursor in the global tech industry.

His journey shows how Pakistani talent, when provided with the right opportunities, can compete at the highest international level and secure a strong position in the global innovation landscape.

According to reports, SpaceX has secured the right to acquire Cursor later this year, while an alternative arrangement may include a $10 billion payment for collaborative projects if the acquisition does not proceed. The proposed partnership aims to integrate Cursor’s AI coding capabilities with SpaceX’s advanced computing systems.

The company is reportedly generating over $1 billion in annualised revenue and serves millions of developers worldwide, positioning it among the fastest-growing AI startups globally.
