Fake journalist Fakhar ur Rehman arrested

Authorities have tightened legal action against individuals accused of spreading anti-state narratives under the guise of journalism. In a recent development, law enforcement officials arrested a man identified as Fakhar ur Rehman, who had been operating in Islamabad and allegedly presenting himself as a journalist.

Fakhar ur Rehman involves in anti-state campaign

Officials claim that Fakhar ur Rehman had been running a sustained campaign on social media, criticising state institutions and promoting narratives seen as harmful to national interests. According to authorities, his posts included controversial claims about Balochistan, promotion of hostile propaganda, and statements questioning the legitimacy of the prime minister and Pakistan’s diplomatic role.

NCCIA arrested fake journalist

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) took action and detained him, calling it a necessary step to curb the spread of what it described as “anti-state propaganda.” Officials stressed that no individual—whether a journalist, YouTuber, or activist—has the right to disseminate content that undermines the state.

Investigators also pointed to a social media account named “Islamabad Post,” which they allege has been actively sharing content aligned with Indian and Afghan narratives against Pakistan. Authorities claim that the account operates under foreign influence and that Fakhar ur Rehman has close links to it, reportedly serving as one of its administrators.

The case has once again sparked debate over the balance between freedom of expression and national security, as authorities continue to monitor online spaces for content they consider harmful to the country’s stability.
