Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, has taken a major step to modernise the licensing system by making the Islamabad Traffic Police licensing process completely paperless.

IG Islamabad formally inaugurated the paperless licensing system. Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk and other traffic officials were also present on the occasion.

The IG reviewed all paperless counters and issued directives regarding the new system. Speaking at the event, he said the initiative has been introduced to facilitate citizens and save their valuable time.

Previously, applicants had to fill out medical forms, attach photographs, and submit multiple documents. Now, citizens no longer need to bring any documents, photocopies, or photos.

He further stated that the entire process from medical examination to licence issuance has now been made fully paperless. He appreciated the Chief Traffic Officer and his team for completing the project in a short period of time.

The IG also announced that the licensing fee system will soon be digitised. Citizens will now only need to bring their national identity card to obtain a driving licence from Islamabad Traffic Police.

In a separate development, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched a digital facility to speed up and make the procedure for obtaining a driving licence more convenient for the citizens.

The issuing process for learner licences for LTV and HTV transport vehicles has been fully digitised.

The system enables applicants to fill their applications online from home. It has been developed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board with administrative support of the Transport Director and the Transport and Mass Transit Department.

The service is available on the Dastak mobile application.

The citizens can download the app and enter their details and make the necessary payment online. After digital verification, the learner licence is issued in a short amount of time.

Officials said more services would in future be moved to the internet to promote e-governance and to reduce delays.

The initiative would aim to eliminate long queues and make legal procedures easier for the public.
