Karachi water supply restored

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has completed major technical work at the Dhabeji Pumping Station ahead of schedule, restoring water supply across the city.

A spokesperson said the project, originally planned to take 48 hours, was completed in just 33 hours on the directives of Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab. The early completion marks a major milestone, with water supply now restored to 95% of the city, according to media reports.

The spokesperson stated that the water supply has been successfully restored from Dhabeji’s K-2 Pump House, where three pumps have been activated.

With these pumps operational, an additional 100 million gallons of water per day can now be supplied, bringing the total supply to 600 million gallons per day. The city’s daily requirement is 650 million gallons, meaning there is currently a shortfall of 50 million gallons.

He further explained that the restoration of water supply in various areas is ongoing and being carried out in phases. Full supply has already been restored in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Scheme 33, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Water supply has also resumed from the Nipa, Safoora, and Sakhi Hassan hydrants.

However, there may still be reduced water supply in tail-end areas such as Saddar, Chenesar, Landhi, and Korangi. Water supply in all other parts of the city continues as normal.

The spokesperson added that Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, CEO of the Water Corporation Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, and COO Engineer Asadullah Khan commended the staff for their dedication and professionalism in completing the work ahead of schedule. He emphasised that the corporation remains committed to improving services for citizens and will continue taking such initiatives in the future.
