Karachi is expected to face water supply shortage as the installation of a new water pipeline has started at the Dhabeji pumping station, according to a spokesperson from the Water Corporation on Saturday.
The spokesperson mentioned that a new central water pipeline, designated as number 5, is being installed at the Dhabeji pumping station to connect it to the existing network.
“To facilitate this interconnection, the operation of nine pumps at the Dhabeji pumping station will be suspended for 48 hours,” stated the water official.
The water corporation announced, “The work is expected to continue until April 27.”
“Water supply from seven of the nine pumps will be restored on Monday,” the spokesman added. The operation of the remaining two pumps will be suspended for an additional five days.
The water supply will be interrupted from Dhabeji’s IVth phase, K-II, and K-III, the official noted.
“The water supply will be disrupted in the areas of North Karachi, Surjani, Scheme-33, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar,” the water corporation stated.
They stated that the hydrants at NIPA, Safoora, and Sakhi Hassan will also be shut down during the maintenance work.
According to a Karachi Water Corporation official, the city is expected to experience a daily water shortage of nearly 250 million gallons during the suspension of the water supply.
