ISLAMABAD: Riffat Ara Alvi, the mother of slain journalist Arshad Sharif has passed away after a prolonged illness in Islamabad today (October 26).
According to family sources, the details regarding her funeral prayers and burial will be announced later.
Arshad Sharif’s mother was 70 years old and had dedicated the last few years of her for justice after her son died in Kenya in October 2022.
After the death of her son, Raifat Ara stood strong, rejecting a government-formed fact-finding committee.
Later, in a letter to the then Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, she urged the establishment of an independent judicial commission comprising senior judges to probe the death.
She has stated that only uncovering the truth and bringing the accused to justice could heal her family’s wounds and the broader journalism community.
