Sajid Sadpara climbs Makalu mountain without breathing cylinders

Sajid Sadpara Makalu Mountain

Pakistani mountaineer Sajid Ali Sadpara made another achievement, reaching the summit of Makalu mountain, without using supplemental oxygen.

Makalu is the fifth-largest mountain in the world, with a height of 8,485 metres, located in Nepal.

According to a statement from Seven Summit Treks, Sadpara reached the summit early on May 2 as part of a small team supported by Sherpa climbers.

The group began their final ascent at around 5am and later stood on the summit after what organisers described as a successful push.

The team is now expected to make its descent back to base camp.

Sadpara’s latest climb is part of his ongoing effort to summit all 14 of the world’s mountains above 8,000 metres without supplemental oxygen.

With Makalu, he has now completed 10 of these peaks under that goal.

He arrived in Nepal in early April and reached Makalu base camp later that month.

The team had completed an earlier rotation on the mountain before making the final summit attempt.

Sadpara is the son of Muhammad Ali Sadpara, who died in 2021 during a winter expedition on K2.

His father was among three climbers who went missing during the ascent; their bodies were recovered months later.

In recent years, Sajid Sadpara has built a reputation in high-altitude climbing.

He has climbed several major peaks, including Mount Everest, K2, Nanga Parbat, and others in the Karakoram range. Some of these climbs were completed without supplemental oxygen.

Officials from the Alpine Club of Pakistan and members of the climbing community have congratulated him on the Makalu ascent, describing it as a notable achievement for Pakistan’s mountaineering scene.

Sadpara, who is in his late twenties, is also known for taking part in rescue efforts on high peaks, including operations on K2.

His latest summit adds to a growing list of high-altitude climbs as he continues his attempt to complete all 14 eight-thousanders without oxygen.
