The daily life in several parts of Karachi continues to disrupt due to prolonged and unannounced power outages as across the multiple areas the residents report hours long electricity load shedding during the soaring temperatures, according to media reports.

Localities such as Azizabad, Malir, Gadap, Kathore, Ahsanabad and Liaquatabad are experiencing extended power suspensions, while residents of Manzoor Colony, Sher Shah and Baldia say outages stretch between 12 to 16 hours further worsening conditions during the ongoing heatwave.

In Azizabad residents took to the streets in protest against persistent load shedding. Men, women and children gathered in large numbers, raising slogans against K-Electric and demanding immediate relief. The demonstration highlighted growing frustration among citizens who feel compelled to protest due to lack of action.

The crisis is affecting all sections of society. Students preparing for exams are struggling to study without electricity particularly during peak heat hours. Many households are also facing water shortages as outages have disrupted water supply systems in several neighbourhoods.

Residents say the unpredictability of load shedding has made the situation even more difficult, preventing them from planning their daily routines. They have urged K-Electric authorities to take urgent action and end the prolonged outages warning that the current situation is becoming unbearable in the extreme summer heat.

K-Electric assures no loadshedding during heatwave in Karachi

It is pertinent to mention that a day earlier, K-Electric assured an uninterrupted power supply during the ongoing heatwave as the Provincial Disaster Management Authority issued an alert for Karachi and advised authorities to take necessary measures to reduce the impact of extreme temperatures.

KE spokesperson Imran Rana said the utility is fully prepared to meet rising electricity demand and remains committed to maintaining a stable power supply.

The power utility announced that loadshedding has been suspended during the heatwave, highlighting that around 70 per cent of the city is already exempt from power outages.
