The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the Team of the Tournament for Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11, with Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam appointed as the side’s skipper.
According to the PCB, Babar Azam earned the honour in recognition of his outstanding batting performances and strong leadership throughout the season. He maintained consistent form across the tournament and played a key role in guiding his team to the title.
The board highlighted his contributions as instrumental in Peshawar Zalmi’s successful campaign, which ultimately culminated in them lifting the championship trophy.
In PSL 11, Babar Azam was among the highest run-scorers and led Peshawar Zalmi to the championship as captain, which is considered a major achievement in his career.
Other prominent players have also been included in the Team of the Tournament for their strong performances in batting, bowling, and all-round contributions. However, the responsibility of captaincy has been given to Babar Azam.
The other players in the Team of the Tournament include Fakhar Zaman, Kaushal Mendis, Shan Masood, Usman Khan, Shadab Khan, Hasan Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Hunain Shah, Sufiyan Muqeem, Richard Gleeson, and Hasan Nawaz.
It is worth mentioning here that Peshawar Zalmi clinched the Pakistan Super League PSL Season 11 title, securing their second championship victory in the tournament’s history. In a high-stakes final held in Lahore, Zalmi delivered a commanding performance to defeat Hyderabad Kingsmen and lift the trophy. The franchise had previously claimed the PSL title in 2017, and now adds another triumph to its record.
In the PSL 11 final, Hyderabad Kingsmen set a target of 130 runs for Peshawar Zalmi. In the decisive match at Gaddafi Stadium, Zalmi’s captain won the toss and chose to field first. The decision proved effective, as Peshawar’s bowlers kept Hyderabad under pressure.
Chasing a small target of 130 runs in Hyderabad, Zalmi initially faced difficulties, but Hardy and Abdul Samad batted responsibly and built a valuable 85-run partnership to lead the team to victory.
Zalmi achieved the target with the loss of five wickets. Aaron Hardy remained unbeaten on 56 runs, while Abdul Samad was outstanding with 48 runs. Captain Babar Azam was dismissed without scoring, while Mohammad Haris made 6 runs, Kaushal Mendis scored 9 runs, and Bracewell added 4 runs. Farhan Yousuf remained not out on 4 runs.
