The government of Sindh has extended the Peoples Motorcycle Fuel Subsidy Program until May 31 and directed the release of Rs2 billion for the initiative.
The decision was taken in a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, where several key approvals were granted related to development projects, urban facilities, and administrative reforms.
During the briefing, it was revealed that more than 548,000 people have so far benefited from the program, with Rs1.096 billion already distributed.
According to the Sindh government spokesperson, the sales tax for motorcycle ride-hailing services has been reduced from 5% to 2%, providing relief to online drivers.
The cabinet also sanctioned Rs6.5 billion towards road rehabilitation in Karachi, which would facilitate the state to initiate road repairs within minutes and to release funds instantly.
Also, the design of a new bridge on the Indus River between Hyderabad and Kotri was approved by the cabinet. According to the Chief Minister, the project would help in enhancing traffic movement and fostering more convenience in travelling within the area.
The digitalisation of district courts with a budget of Rs48.9 of digitisation has been approved and the budget of four new Courts in Moro has also been approved with the budget amounting to Rs432.597 million.
According to the Chief Minister, these measures would assist in modernising the judicial system and give better facilities to the people. A 25 million grant was also granted to Pir Ilahi Bux Law College in Dadu, in this respect.
With the emphasis on the health sector, the cabinet mandated that the Sukkur Trauma Centre should be operationalised by June 2026.
On the issue of anti-encroachment, a tribunal in Shaheed Benazirabad Division was granted approval towards ensuring successful implementation of the Sindh Public Property Act 2010. The appointment of a presiding officer, which was to occur with the consultation of the Sindh High Court, has been initiated to be included in the 2026-27 budget.
The allocation of land to build a mega graveyard in Karachi was also approved by the cabinet. The area will be situated in Deh Mitha Ghar, District Malir and handed over to the local government department.
