Wasim Akram settles Karachi vs Lahore food debate

Wasim Akram food debate

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Wasim Akram has finally given his verdict on the ongoing debate over the food of Karachi and Lahore.

In a video shared on X, Wasim Akram said that he had been seeing intense debates on social media regarding the food of Karachi and Lahore, with people passionately arguing over which city offers better cuisine.

He said, “I am a Lahori. I was born in Lahore, lived there for 42 years, and have been living in Karachi for the past 14 years.”

Wasim Akram added that his friend Fawad Chaudhry had also commented that Karachi’s food is “just okay,” so he decided to settle the debate once and for all.

The former cricketer said that he was recently in Lahore for the Pakistan Super League final, where he visited some of his old favourite food spots for chakkar cholay and ordered chops from his hotel. However, he joked that all he got was excessive spice.

Apologising to Lahoris, Wasim Akram said that although Lahore certainly has some outstanding food spots, Karachi offers far greater variety because people from different ethnic communities live there, making diverse cuisines available across the city.

He further said that food in Lahore has become overly spicy in recent years, despite Lahoris traditionally not preferring such high levels of spice.

Concluding the debate, Wasim Akram said that Karachi has more variety in food, while Lahore’s food is good but lacks the same level of variety.
