A resolution introduced in the United States House of Representatives (US Congress) has praised Pakistan for its diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating peace talks between the United States, Israel, and Iran during heightened regional tensions.
The resolution titled, “Original Resolution Commending the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for its efforts to facilitate peace between the United States and Israel with Iran” acknowledges Pakistan’s role in hosting diplomatic delegations despite major logistical challenges, including citywide shutdowns.
According to the resolution, “Pakistan has clearly demonstrated its desire to facilitate an end to the war between the United States and Israel with Iran.” It further credits Pakistan with playing an “integral role” by providing a “secure and reliable location for peace talks.”
The resolution also highlights the heavy human and economic toll of the conflict. It states that at least 13 American service members have been killed and more than 399 injured, while the war is reportedly costing the United States nearly $1 billion daily.
The resolution cautions that any further escalation, particularly the deployment of US ground troops in Iran, “would create strife, disunity, and turmoil within the United States of America.”
It also notes that ending the conflict could contribute to stabilising global energy markets and petroleum prices.
While several countries attempted to mediate, the resolution identifies Pakistan as the key facilitator in the peace process.
The resolution concludes by stating that the House “acknowledges and commends the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for its efforts to facilitate a lasting peace between the United States and Israel with Iran.”
