The Government of Sindh has decided to purchase 1,000 more pink electric EV scooters to empower women and provide them with safer transportation facilities.
According to details, an important meeting of the Transport Department was held under the chairmanship of Senior Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon where major decisions were approved to modernise travel facilities for citizens across Sindh, especially women.
During the meeting, it was decided to acquire an additional 1,000 pink electric scooters aimed at empowering women and ensuring safe travel opportunities for them.
Sharjeel Memon also directed the concerned authorities to immediately remove obstacles in the registration process of the pink scooters.
To improve the province’s mass transit system the meeting approved the launch of an intercity Peoples Bus Service. Intercity buses will soon begin operating in districts including Larkana, Hyderabad, Dadu, and Sehwan.
New bus routes from Khairpur to Rohri and from Khairpur to Ranipur will become operational next week.
The meeting was also informed that a new fleet of buses for Karachi will arrive within the next few months.
Participants agreed on gradually modernising the transport system across Karachi and the rest of Sindh. It was also announced that double decker buses would be introduced in Sindh for the first time as part of efforts to establish a modern transport network.
Sharjeel Memon said that providing convenience to women, students and daily commuters remains the government’s top priority.
The senior minister further directed officials to accelerate ongoing projects and said that the purpose of these initiatives is to provide affordable international standard travel facilities to the public at their doorstep.
Free bike training announced for women under new initiative
The Sindh government earlier introduced a free pink scooty training initiative for women to improve their mobility and independence.
In collaboration with KFC, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) conducted the program at Niaz Stadium.
Officials stated that the program provides practical, hands-on riding instruction to build participants’ confidence and equip them with essential independent mobility skills. Experienced trainers offered guidance to attendees throughout the sessions at the venue.
Free E-scooty scheme: How women in Sindh can apply?
The eligibility criteria and application process for the free electric scooty (E-scooty) scheme for women in Sindh had been announced.
The Sindh government laid out the requirements and procedure for women to apply for the free electric scooty scheme.
The initiative aims to reduce the challenges faced by women in the province and empower them.
