After revelations about a sustained campaign against martyr Maulana Idrees on official social media channels and propaganda networks linked to Afghan Taliban groups, strong anger has been reported in religious and public circles.
According to sources, Maulana Idrees (may Allah have mercy on him) had been receiving threatening voice messages and texts for a long time. In these messages, he was reportedly pressured to withdraw his stance and remain silent.
Maulana Idrees was known for openly expressing his religious views and speaking against extremist thinking. He had also expressed support for Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, after which he allegedly came under increased pressure and threats, which continued until his death.
The messages reportedly used harsh language and questioned his stance, saying that “democracy is condemned in Islamic teachings,” and urged him to abandon his views and support for the state. He was also warned by referring to past religious scholars and told to repent for his statements.
Reports further suggest that coordinated propaganda campaigns were run against Maulana Idrees across multiple social media platforms linked to Afghan militant networks. His character was targeted, and inflammatory content was shared against him.
Sources say he continued to receive threats until his martyrdom, while online hate campaigns against him also continued.
Religious and social circles have demanded a full investigation into the incident and strict action against those responsible. They said targeting religious scholars and issuing threats over differences of opinion is unacceptable.
