The government of Punjab has finalised a new strategy for the distribution of free textbooks across all government schools before the start of the upcoming academic year.

The new strategy will help ease the burden on parents.

In the previous years distribution challenges were faced by the government. To streamline the process this year a specific formula has been introduced by the Punjab Education Department.

According to the new plan, the allocation of textbooks will be based on a hybrid of new books and Book banks. Book Banks means a system where textbooks are collected from outgoing students and redistributed to new ones.

The Distribution will be based on Grade:

Classes 1–3: The students from Classes 1-3 will receive 100 per cent of their books for free easing a very big burden on parents.

Classes 4–5: When it comes to students in Classes 4 and 5 about 80 per cent of them will be receiving completely new books. The remaining 20 per cent will also receive free books but they will be used books from the book bank.

Classes 6–9: The students who will be studying in Classes 6 to 9 will also receive free books. About 50 per cent of the students will be provided with new books.

Class 10 (Matric): All students studying in class 10 will receive 100 per cent new books ad new syllabus has been introduced.

It has already been confirmed by the Education Department that new books have been transported to district and tehsil warehouses throughout Punjab.

Schools have also been directed by authorities to collect old and usable textbooks from former students and ensure that the book banks are stocked.

It was also emphasised by the authorities that book distribution will be based on the figures of late enrolment.

Officials have also given strict orders to ensure transparency in the process, so that no student’s education is hindered by a lack of resources.
