WhatsApp is reportedly preparing to launch a new premium subscription service called WhatsApp Plus, which has started appearing for a limited number of iOS users following its earlier beta release on Android devices.
The upcoming subscription is designed for users interested in enhanced personalisation features rather than core messaging functions. According to beta update reports, WhatsApp Plus will be entirely optional, allowing regular users to continue using standard chats, calls and media-sharing features free of charge.
For iPhone users, the feature is currently being rolled out gradually, meaning access may vary depending on the user’s account and region. Those with access can reportedly view the subscription section through WhatsApp settings, where the subscription dashboard may already be available.
During the beta phase, subscription pricing appears to differ across countries. In Europe, the service is expected to cost around €2.49 per month, while users in Pakistan may see a monthly fee of PKR229. Reports also suggest a possible price of $29 per month in Mexico, although final pricing could change before the official launch.
Unlike many paid subscriptions that restrict essential features, WhatsApp Plus is expected to focus mainly on cosmetic and convenience upgrades. Subscribers may gain access to premium stickers, custom themes, personalised app icons, additional pinned chats, premium ringtones, and expanded chat list options.
The move marks another step by Meta to introduce paid experiences within its messaging platform while continuing to maintain the free version used daily by billions of people worldwide.
WhatsApp ends risk of losing chats in big update
In a long overdue update, WhatsApp has solved one of the biggest ongoing user grievances: which is how to transfer WhatsApp chats from iPhone to Android.
For years, users switching between operating systems risked losing all of their chat history, and it was very inconvenient for them.
With its latest update in March, WhatsApp eliminated this barrier and made it possible to transfer a smoother and more reliable cross-platform chat transfer process.
The update also brings multi-account support for iPhone users which is a huge change in functionality on iOS.
In the past, using more than one WhatsApp account on the same iPhone has either been limited or required workarounds.
Now, users can seamlessly have multiple accounts on a single device, which provides better convenience for users who juggle to maintain both personal and professional communication or utilise different numbers.
These changes are WhatsApp’s continued push to make the experience for its users improved. By focusing on flexibility and cutting friction in the switching of devices, the platform is responding to the demands of its global user base, which has existed for some time.
The addition of multi-account support also helps to improve usability as well, especially for users who use the app for both personal and business communication.
