Important update regarding summer vacations in schools

Will Punjab schools announce early summer vacations due to heatwave

The Punjab government has shared its position regarding summer vacations in schools across the province.

Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said in a statement that no final decision has yet been made regarding summer holidays in Punjab schools, adding that three to four different proposals are currently under consideration.

He further stated that a final decision on summer vacations is expected to be made within the next few days.

It is worth mentioning that in April, the provincial education minister shared important details regarding summer holidays for educational institutions in 2026.

Rana Sikandar Hayat had dismissed ongoing speculation about the vacations and clarified that the final decision would be taken after May.

He also revealed that the provincial government is considering reducing summer vacations by 15 to 20 days this year in order to compensate for educational losses.

“The government wants to increase the number of teaching days in the academic year from 180 to 190 to ensure the timely completion of the syllabus. Not only summer vacations, but a proposal to reduce winter holidays by five to six days is also under consideration,” he said.

He also clarified a circulating news about the Friday holiday in schools.

He said that the Friday holiday is not permanent and soon the educational institutions will return to their regular schedules.

Private schools seek permission for summer camps

Private schools in Punjab have sought permission to organise summer camps to make up for the educational loss during the summer holidays, according to the reports on Wednesday.

School owners have said that the government should allow them to organise early morning summer camps during the summer holidays, according to the reports. This is so that the continuity of students’ studies can be maintained.
