BYD is likely to launch three of its new PHEV cars in Pakistan, as the company prepares to expand its business in the country.

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has brought several new plug-in hybrid SUV models to Pakistan for evaluation and demonstration, as the company prepares for a possible expansion in the local market.

The vehicles include the Denza B5, Denza B8 and BYD Sealion 6, according to information currently available. All three models are plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), combining petrol engines with electric motors and rechargeable battery systems.

While the company has not officially announced launch dates or prices, industry sources say the models could eventually be introduced in Pakistan as locally assembled vehicles.

Denza is BYD’s premium vehicle brand, originally launched through a partnership with Mercedes-Benz before becoming fully owned by BYD.

The brand focuses on larger and more technology-focused vehicles positioned above BYD’s standard lineup.

The Denza B5 is a mid-size SUV powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor, while the larger Denza B8 uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid setup.

The Sealion 6, which sits in the compact crossover SUV segment, is expected to compete in Pakistan’s growing hybrid SUV market.

Pakistan’s auto market has increasingly shifted towards hybrid and fuel-efficient vehicles in recent years, mainly due to rising fuel prices and restrictions on vehicle imports.

Plug-in hybrid vehicles are seen by many buyers as a middle option between conventional petrol vehicles and fully electric cars because they offer limited electric-only driving while still using petrol for longer trips.

Analysts say the Sealion 6 could compete with mainstream crossover SUVs already available in the market, while the Denza models may target buyers interested in premium SUVs.

According to industry insiders, BYD is expected to begin local assembly operations in Pakistan later this year, possibly between July and August.

The company does not currently manufacture vehicles locally, but a local assembly setup is reportedly under development.

The price and launch date are yet to be announced by the company.
