WhatsApp to now get new privacy feature, ‘Incognito Chat’

Meta, on Wednesday, announced the introduction of a feature that allows users to begin “incognito” conversations with its Meta AI incognito chat on WhatsApp.

According to the company, these discussions will be conducted in a secure environment and will remain confidential.

Users can begin an incognito session by selecting a new icon during one-on-one chats with Meta AI. The company also indicated that this feature will be accessible on the standalone Meta AI application as well.

The rollout of incognito chats is expected to happen over the next few months for both WhatsApp and the Meta AI app.

Meta clarified that these incognito conversations will not be stored, and messages will automatically disappear once the chat is closed.

Additionally, the session will terminate if the app is closed or the phone is locked, resulting in Meta AI losing the context of that specific conversation, as stated by the company.

Newton-Rex mentioned that Meta previously used smaller models for its earlier features.

However, the new incognito chat leverages the latest Muse Spark model, which was launched last month.

The company is also developing its next feature that uses its private processing infrastructure. Named Side Chat, this feature will enable users to engage Meta AI within chats to pose questions and receive answers secretly, without alerting or displaying the information to other participants in the chat.

At present, users must tag a message and ask a question to the AI assistant to receive a response visible to all chat participants. If a user needs to ask a question privately, they must copy the text into a separate chat window.
