The government of Punjab has banned eight theatre artists permanently over obscene performances.
The government has banned seven actresses and one actor from performing in theatres permanently across the province over alleged violations of theatre regulations and standard operating procedures.
Among those reportedly banned are actresses Silk Jutt, Resham Jan and Goshi 2. The restrictions will apply to theatre performances throughout Punjab.
The decision was discussed during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Punjab Council of the Arts under the chairmanship of Executive Director Muhammad Mehboob Alam Chaudhary.
Speaking after the meeting, Mehboob Alam said promoting quality and family-oriented theatre remained one of the government’s top priorities.
Officials said the action was taken under the Dramatic Performances Act 1876, following complaints about what authorities described as obscene dances and inappropriate dialogue during stage performances.

Provincial authorities said the move was part of a “zero tolerance” policy aimed at promoting family-friendly theatre productions and preserving cultural values.
Officials added that strict action would continue against performers and organisers found violating theatre regulations, regardless of status or influence.
The Punjab Arts Council also announced tighter enforcement measures, saying theatre rules and regulations would now be implemented more strictly across the industry.
Stage theatre in Punjab has long faced criticism from conservative groups over dance performances and suggestive content, while supporters of the industry argue that excessive restrictions could damage artistic freedom and limit employment opportunities for performers.
