Traffic fines reduced after new app launched

Authorities in Lahore have reduced several traffic fines while launching an upgraded traffic enforcement application aimed at improving monitoring, transparency and compliance on roads.

Under the revised traffic system, commercial vehicles will now also receive challan tickets for violations, expanding enforcement to all categories of vehicles.

Officials said fines for offences such as using a mobile phone while driving, violating lane discipline, disrupting traffic flow and using pressure horns have been reduced to Rs1,000.

Meanwhile, penalties for motorcycle riders without helmets, one-way violations and driving without a licence will remain Rs2,000. Car drivers committing lane violations will face a Rs2,000 fine, while jumping a red signal will result in a Rs3,000 penalty.

Commercial vehicle drivers will face stricter punishments, including fines of up to Rs5,000 for driving without a licence or violating traffic signals.

Authorities have also revised smoke-emission penalties, setting fines at Rs2,000 for motorcycles and rickshaws, Rs3,000 for cars and Rs5,000 for commercial vehicles.

Officials believe the updated enforcement app and revised fine structure will help promote safer driving habits and improve traffic management across the city.

Driving licence system becomes completely paperless

In another development, Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, has taken a major step to modernise the licensing system by making the Islamabad Traffic Police licensing process completely paperless.

IG Islamabad formally inaugurated the paperless licensing system. Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk and other traffic officials were also present on the occasion.

The IG reviewed all paperless counters and issued directives regarding the new system. Speaking at the event, he said the initiative has been introduced to facilitate citizens and save their valuable time.

Previously, applicants had to fill out medical forms, attach photographs, and submit multiple documents. Now, citizens no longer need to bring any documents, photocopies, or photos.

He further stated that the entire process from medical examination to licence issuance has now been made fully paperless. He appreciated the Chief Traffic Officer and his team for completing the project in a short period of time.

The IG also announced that the licensing fee system will soon be digitised. Citizens will now only need to bring their national identity card to obtain a driving licence from Islamabad Traffic Police.
