The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is set to increase its quarterly stipend by 24.14 per cent as the federal government has decided, according to reports today. It will raise it from Rs14,000 to Rs18,000.
Officials have confirmed that this new payment plan will start from January 2027. It is part of wider reforms to support low-income families who have been affected by rising costs of things.
The government has also given written assurance to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) about this increase. Reports say that this has been done as part of its economic plans and social support goals.
Along with this increase, the government is also planning to add around 200,000 more eligible families to the programme. This will help more poor and vulnerable households to get financial support.
Earlier, the government proposed a 20 per cent rise in BISP funding. That set it at Rs716 billion for the fiscal year 2025–26. The latest plan shows that there is even more focus on welfare spending in the future.
The BISP is Pakistan’s main programme for helping poor families through cash payments.
Officials have said that increasing stipends will help people in managing rising prices. It will also improve their living conditions.
The decision comes as Pakistan continues to balance public support programs with economic reforms agreed under IMF guidance.
BISP payments expected ahead of Eid ul Azha
The new instalment of the BISP is likely to be released on May 18, 2026, before Eid ul Azha.
According to the details, this payment will provide financial help to poor families ahead of Eid. It is expected to support low-income households.
Only those families and individuals who are already registered and verified through the National Socio-Economic Registry survey will receive the payment.
Authorities have also said that the payments will be distributed across the country. Only verified women and families will be able to collect the money.
They also added that biometric verification is required to make sure the process is transparent and free from corruption.
