Pakistan’s batting line-up collapsed in the second Test against Bangladesh, raising the threat of another whitewash for the national team.
Bangladesh was bowled out for 390 in their second innings on the third day of the second Test against the Pakistan national cricket team in Sylhet, taking their lead to a massive 436 runs. Pakistan now need a record 437 runs to win the Test after conceding a first-innings deficit.
Following Bangladesh’s impressive batting performance and firm control of the match, Pakistan’s batsmen now face a major challenge to survive at the crease and avoid defeat. Chasing such a huge target on the Sylhet pitch over the fourth and fifth days will be a stern test for Pakistan.
Bangladesh continued to dominate the visitors on the third day of the second Test in Sylhet. In their second innings, the hosts scored 308 runs for the loss of six wickets, extending their lead over Pakistan to 354 runs.
Bangladesh resumed their innings on the third day at 110 for 3. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim steadied the innings, but at a total of 115, Bangladesh lost their fourth wicket when Shanto was trapped lbw by Khurram Shahzad after scoring 15 runs.
At the close of the second day, Mahmudul Hasan Joy had scored 52, Mominul Haque 30, and Tanzid Hasan 4 runs. For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad had taken three wickets, while Mohammad Abbas claimed one.
Earlier, Pakistan were bowled out for 232 in their first innings in reply to Bangladesh’s 278, handing the home side a 46-run first-innings lead.
Pakistan resumed their innings on the second day at 21 without loss, but both openers departed cheaply. Azan Awais was dismissed for 13, while Abdullah Fazal scored 9.
Among the other Pakistani batters, captain Shan Masood made 21, Saud Shakeel 8, Salman Agha 21, and Mohammad Rizwan 13. Babar Azam was the top scorer with 68 runs, while Sajid Khan contributed 38, Hasan Ali 18, and Khurram Shahzad added 10.
For Bangladesh, Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam picked up three wickets each, while Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed two wickets apiece.
On the first day of the match, Bangladesh were bowled out for 278 in their first innings, thanks largely to Litton Das’s brilliant knock of 126 runs. For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad took four wickets, Mohammad Abbas claimed three, Hasan Ali took two, and Sajid Khan picked up one wicket.
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan captain Shan Masood won the toss and elected to field first. Bangladesh already lead the two-match Test series 1-0 after defeating Pakistan by 104 runs in the first Test.
