The Lahore authority has imposed a complete ban on the entry of loader rickshaws and motorcycle rickshaws on Canal Road. To ensure strict enforcement of the restrictions, additional traffic police personnel have been deployed at key points along the route to stop these vehicles from entering the road.
The Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) said the decision was made to protect citizens’ lives and property. He stated that loader rickshaws are often loaded in an extremely dangerous manner, and items such as iron pipes carried on them pose a serious risk to other motorists.
The CTO added that loader rickshaws could prove fatal in the event of an accident. He also said that Qingqi rickshaws create disorder and disrupt the flow of traffic on Canal Road. Furthermore, he ordered a crackdown on auto-rickshaw drivers who allow passengers to ride in unsafe conditions.
He emphasised that the safety of human lives would be ensured at all costs. Loaders were instructed not to carry goods extending beyond the body of the rickshaw. Special teams have been deployed at Dharmapura, Mughalpura, and Thokar Niaz Baig to enforce the restrictions.
The CTO Lahore has also ordered a crackdown on auto-rickshaw drivers who carry extra passengers alongside the driver. According to the traffic police, special teams have been deployed at Dharmapura, Mughalpura, and Thokar Niaz Baig to ensure the effective implementation of the ban.
The authorities further clarified that departmental action may also be taken against officers found negligent in taking action against the loader and Qingqi rickshaws.
