Police in San Diego, California, have said that “the threat at the Islamic centre has been neutralised” after there were reports of an active shooter at the Islamic Centre of San Diego in the city’s Clairemont area today.

Authorities have responded to the incident with a large police presence around the mosque. While emergency personnel have worked to secure the area and protect the community. Officials have not yet released details about possible casualties or the identity of the suspect.

The office of Gavin Newsom also said that the governor was monitoring the situation and coordinating with local law enforcement agencies.

“We are grateful to the first responders on the scene working to protect the community and urge everyone to follow guidance from local authorities,” the office said in a statement.

The Islamic Centre of San Diego is located in the Clairemont neighbourhood of San Diego, north of the city centre.
