Police in San Diego, California, have said that “the threat at the Islamic centre has been neutralised” after there were reports of an active shooter at the Islamic Centre of San Diego in the city’s Clairemont area today.
Authorities have responded to the incident with a large police presence around the mosque. While emergency personnel have worked to secure the area and protect the community. Officials have not yet released details about possible casualties or the identity of the suspect.

There were no official reports of casualties, according to the details. But the reports say that the Associated Press quoted officer Anthony Carrasco as saying he believed some people had been shot.
Later, according to the reports, the police department said the threat had been “neutralised.” However, they did not give further details. “We have significant resources on scene at this time,” the department said.
Television footage from the area also showed a large police presence outside the mosque.
Mayor Todd Gloria said he was continuing to receive updates about the incident. “Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area,” he wrote on the social media platform X.
The office of Gavin Newsom also said that the governor was monitoring the situation and coordinating with local law enforcement agencies.
“We are grateful to the first responders on the scene working to protect the community and urge everyone to follow guidance from local authorities,” the office said in a statement.
The Islamic Centre of San Diego is located in the Clairemont neighbourhood of San Diego, north of the city centre.
According to the reports, the police have said that a reunification point had been set up for people in the area. The mosque also posted on social media that children could be picked up from a nearby church. More details will emerge as the situation develops.
