Bangladesh Whitewash Pakistan in Test series after win in final clash

Bangladesh whitewashed Pakistan in the test series by 78 runs in the second Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Chasing a huge target of 437, Pakistan were bowled out for 358, giving the hosts a big win and a series whitewash.

Resuming play on the fifth day after a brief rain delay, Mohammad Rizwan and Sajid Khan added crucial runs and built a valuable 50-plus partnership that helped Pakistan cross the 350 mark. However, their stand was broken by Taijul Islam, who dismissed Sajid Khan for 28 off 36 balls.

Shortly after, Pakistan suffered another setback when Shoriful Islam removed Mohammad Rizwan, who played a brilliant knock of 94 off 166 deliveries, featuring 10 boundaries. Taijul Islam further strengthened Bangladesh’s grip by dismissing Khurram Shahzad for a duck, wrapping up Pakistan’s innings.

Pakistan’s chase had begun poorly with both openers dismissed early. Babar Azam (47) and skipper Shan Masood (71) tried to rebuild the innings with a steady partnership, taking the side past 100. However, regular wickets kept halting their progress.

Saud Shakeel fell cheaply for six, while Babar and later Shan Masood were also dismissed, leaving Pakistan under pressure at 154-4. Despite this, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha stitched together a fighting 134-run stand to revive hopes and push Pakistan beyond 200.

Salman eventually fell for 71, once again to Taijul Islam, who proved to be the chief destroyer. Hasan Ali also departed as Pakistan ended Day 4 at 316-7 before being bowled out the following day.

Earlier, Bangladesh posted 278 in their first innings, recovering from 116-6 thanks to a magnificent 126 by Litton Das, who anchored the innings with 16 fours and two sixes. Khurram Shahzad led Pakistan’s bowling with four wickets.

Pakistan replied with 232, giving Bangladesh a 46-run lead, as Babar Azam top-scored with 68. Bangladesh’s bowling attack was led by Taijul Islam and Nahid Rana, who took three wickets each.

In their second innings, Bangladesh set a challenging target of 437, powered by Mushfiqur Rahim’s superb 137, supported by contributions from Litton Das and Mahmudul Hasan Joy. Pakistan’s bowlers fought back with Khurram Shahzad taking four wickets, while Sajid Khan claimed three.
