Sanam Saeed’s Cannes look sparks discussion in India

The debut appearance of renowned Pakistani actress Sanam Saeed at the Cannes Film Festival has attracted widespread attention not only in Pakistan but also in India, where her style and fashion choice are being highly praised.

For the Cannes red carpet, the actress wore a unique white gown designed by Pakistani fashion designer Hussain Rehar. Nearly 50 artisans reportedly spent more than 2,300 hours crafting the ensemble.

Sanam Saeed complemented the stunning gown with silver and diamond jewellery, also inspired by the peacock theme. Her complete look immediately caught the attention of attendees on the Cannes red carpet.

Fashion critics and stylists in India also praised the actress’s appearance. Indian stylist Nisha Goenka remarked that Cannes often showcases either overly traditional or excessively dramatic fashion, but described Sanam Saeed’s look as a perfect balance of elegance and sophistication.

Similarly, fashion commentator Sufi Motiwala gave high praise to the Pakistani actress’s outfit and said her debut deserved full marks.

Photos of Sanam Saeed’s Cannes look also went viral on social media, where users showered her with compliments. Several Indian social media users described her appearance as one of the best looks at Cannes this year, while some also criticised the fashion choices of other celebrities.

Indian media outlets have also given prominent coverage to her debut, with many calling it one of the fashion highlights of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Sanam Saeed shines at Cannes as inaugural honouree celebrating South Asian women in cinema and arts

It is pertinent to mention that she has been named an inaugural honoree of Us Studios’ “South Asian Women Excellence in Cinema & Global Art” initiative, which aims to recognise the significant contributions of women in cinema and creative arts.

Earlier, Sanam said that she would be paying tribute to legendary Shamim Ara, whose “life doesn’t follow the usual arc of rise, fall, and fade”, which “was something rare, rise, dominance, reinvention, legacy”.

“In a male-dominated industry, Begum Shamim Ara quietly broke the biggest boundaries, opening doors for women behind the camera,” Sanam said in a video clip posted on her official Instagram page ahead of her Cannes appearance.
