Bangladesh’s Pakistani bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed has commented on the on-field exchange between Liton Das and Mohammad Rizwan, saying the incident was Liton’s fault but also reflective of the competitive nature of Test cricket.
Bangladesh’s Pakistani bowling coach, Mushtaq Ahmed, said that the argument between Liton Das and Mohammad Rizwan was Liton’s fault, but added that this is also the beauty of Test cricket.
Speaking to a program, the former leg-spinner said, “I met Rizwan and Liton Das and resolved the matter over breakfast the next morning.” He added that Rizwan’s strategy is to unsettle opponents and disrupt their focus.
Mushtaq Ahmed said, “I told Liton Das that you should respond in the same way. A bit of teasing is also part of the beauty of Test cricket. It is a tactical approach, similar to what Australian players often do.”
According to the former cricketer, Rizwan told him he was speaking to the umpire at the time, and in that situation, Rizwan was right because someone was standing in front of the sightscreen. He also said that Liton was trying to get Rizwan out by forcing him into playing a false shot.
He further noted that Bangladeshi players respect Pakistani players and that all issues were resolved after the match.
Mushtaq Ahmed also emphasised that the umpire’s role is very important during hot weather in Test matches, and that umpires should carefully monitor such situations.
