Heatwave alert issued for Central, Upper Sindh

A severe heatwave is expected in Sindh during Eid ul Azha, with temperatures likely to rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius.

According to the Meteorological Department, a high-pressure system is likely to develop in the upper atmosphere on May 25, which may strengthen further by May 26.

Under the influence of this system, moderate to severe heatwave conditions are expected in most districts of Sindh from May 25 to May 31.

Due to the intense heat, temperatures in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo-Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, and Naushahro Feroze may rise between 47°C and 50°C.

In rural Sindh, including Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro and Sanghar, maximum temperatures may exceed 44°C to 47°C.

Karachi

Meanwhile, no heatwave is expected in Karachi; however, the weather is likely to remain hot and humid, with maximum temperatures reaching 37°C and minimum temperatures around 27°C.

During the heatwave period, humidity levels are expected to remain between 70% and 80% in the morning and 55% to 65% in the evening. Due to the high humidity, the weather may feel hotter than the actual temperature.

Lahore

Lahore is likely to remain under extreme heat conditions, with temperatures soaring as high as 47 degrees Celsius during daytime hours. Weather experts say the city will experience dry and scorching conditions with clear skies and zero precipitation chances. Islamabad

In Islamabad, residents can expect very warm weather with hazy sunshine as temperatures are predicted to touch 40 degrees Celsius. Despite strong winds in some areas, no rainfall has been forecast for the federal capital either.

Earlier, Eid ul Azha holidays were announced in Pakistan from May 26 to 28, a notification was also issued.

According to the notification, issued after the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Eid ul Azha holidays will be observed on May 26, 27, and 28.

With Eid ul Azha 2026 approaching, cattle markets across Pakistan are witnessing heavy activity as traders display sacrificial animals and people rush to buy them.

Major cities, including Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta, as well as smaller towns, have set up dedicated cattle markets. These markets will remain open until the third day of Eid.
