Strict action ordered against unsafe animal transport

Strict action animal transport

Punjab Traffic Police has issued a stern warning to transporters to adhere to traffic regulations during the Eid-ul-Azha 2026 holiday, while also giving strict directions to make sure the safe transportation of sacrificial animals takes place throughout the province.

DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir has directed the authorities to take stringent measures against the transporters who are transporting sacrificial animals in passenger buses, coaches and vans, said a spokesperson.

It’s dangerous to human life and dangerous to livestock to transport them in unsafe conditions, he said, or on the rooftops.

The DIG instructed owners of sacrificial animals to only use designated goods transport vehicles for this purpose.

He also ordered a crackdown against the transportation of illegal livestock during Eid holidays in all the zones of Punjab.

Muhammad Waqas Nazir also urged the transporters and the livestock farmers to not compromise on safety to cut down their transportation costs.

He reminded the citizens to obey traffic rules and prevent accidents and stop the traffic jams during Eid days.

On the other hand, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has rolled out a nationwide campaign titled “Go Cashless” for Eid ul Azha 2026 to encourage the adoption of digital payment methods in Pakistan’s cattle markets, offering a secure and convenient way to transact with each other.

The move comes as part of the overall initiative to move away from cash and move toward the digitisation of Pakistan’s payment system, according to the central bank.

Cattle banks are seen in huge commercial activities on Eid-ul-Azha, and the majority of the transactions are generally conducted in cash, SBP said.

The campaign has been greatly expanded this year, building on the coverage of 56 cattle markets last year, to 96 markets across the country.

22 banks will launch the campaign, while special camps and kiosks will be opened at cattle markets to assist in making digital payments by buyers and sellers.
