Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese PM Li Qiang agreed to accelerate the implementation of key bilateral projects and expand Pakistan-China cooperation into a new phase focused on practical, high-quality and result-oriented development, the private media outlet reported on Monday.
The two leaders met in China during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s four-day official visit from May 23 to 26, held against the backdrop of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their support for each other on issues of core national interest and pledged to maintain close coordination at all levels. They also expressed satisfaction over the steady progress in bilateral cooperation across political, economic, strategic, security and people-to-people sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked Premier Li Qiang for the warm welcome and described the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership as the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
He said the long-standing friendship between the two countries continued to grow stronger through mutual trust, strategic cooperation and a shared commitment to peace, prosperity and development.
The premier emphasized the importance of using the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties to transform the historic goodwill between the two nations into practical, people-focused and future-oriented outcomes. He also stressed the need for regular high-level exchanges and stronger coordination to further deepen bilateral ties.
Both leaders agreed that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor had played a transformative role in Pakistan’s socio-economic development and expressed commitment to advancing the next phase of the project.
Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s focus on high-quality development under the next phase of CPEC, with priorities including industrialization, regional connectivity, agriculture, science and technology, digital transformation, clean energy and socio-economic progress.
He also underscored the importance of aligning China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with Pakistan’s development framework, Uraan Pakistan, to accelerate economic growth and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
