A heavy rush is being witnessed at transport terminals of Rawalpindi and Islamabad as people travel to their hometowns ahead of Eid ul Azha, creating serious difficulties for passengers.
According to details, a large number of citizens have already left for their native areas before the festival. However, those still waiting to travel are facing long delays, overcrowding, and mismanagement at bus stands. Families and women passengers can be seen waiting for hours to find transport.
Passengers complain that transporters are charging fares higher than official rates. Reports of overloading and unfair behaviour have also surfaced. The situation has made Eid travel more expensive and stressful for many.
Authorities, including motorway police, Regional Transport Authority, and City Traffic Police Rawalpindi, have launched operations against overcharging and overloading. Despite these efforts, the situation remains largely uncontrolled.
Sources say passengers travelling to cities such as Kot Addu, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, and Multan are facing severe problems.
At Pirwadhai bus terminal, passengers present since 4am said that despite buying expensive tickets, they were told buses would depart after delays of three to four hours.
Transporters argue that operating vehicles with fewer passengers is not possible due to rising fuel prices. They say increased diesel and petrol costs have raised operational expenses, affecting schedules.
Meanwhile, alleged negligence by authorities and stubbornness of transporters continue to fuel disorder at terminals. Citizens have demanded immediate and effective steps to ensure smooth travel during Eid.
