The Punjab government has introduced summer learning camps, according to the reports today. The step has been taken to help improve students’ basic literacy and numeracy skills during the school holidays.
Under the Taleem Program, the government has launched eight week summer learning camps across 12 districts to continue academic activities during the summer break.
The initiative is designed to strengthen foundational learning skills while regular school classes remain closed.
According to the School Education Department, the camps will run from June 2 to August 7, 2026.
Reports say that a total of 6,060 learning camps will be set up in 3,030 selected schools across districts.
These include Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Bhakkar, Chiniot, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Lodhran, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Pakpattan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Rajanpur.
Officials said that the camps will operate five days a week from 7 AM to 9:30 AM. The focus will be on improving basic academic skills in a structured learning environment.
The School Education Department has instructed chief executive officers and district education authorities to ensure proper arrangements before the program starts and to make sure it runs smoothly in all districts.
Sources said teachers participating in the camps will receive an additional Rs40,000 per month. This is along with their regular salaries during the eight week period.
The department has also emphasised community involvement to increase student participation and improve learning outcomes.
Officials added that the program is part of wider efforts to reduce learning gaps in the students, Also to strengthen the education system at the basic level.
Private schools seek permission for summer camps
Private schools in Punjab have sought permission to organise summer camps to make up for the educational loss during the summer holidays, according to the reports on Wednesday.
School owners have said that the government should allow them to organise early morning summer camps during the summer holidays, according to the reports. This is so that the continuity of students’ studies can be maintained.
