Separate sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate for the federal budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2026-27 will be held on June 5th.
President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned these sessions.
The government will release the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26 on June 4.
According to reports, the size of the federal budget for FY2026-27 is expected to reach Rs. 17.1 trillion. The government is proposing an economic growth target of 4.1 per cent and expects average inflation to remain around 8.4 per cent during the next fiscal year.
Government officials have indicated that relief may be provided broadly in line with inflation.
Earlier this month, the government denied a report that Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, who has previously served as the finance czar, had been handed over the budget-making process.
“The story incorrectly portrays the constitution of a high-level review committee by the prime minister as a ‘handover’ of the budget-making process from the Finance Division or as a ‘sidelining’ of the finance minister,” the finance ministry asserted.
The federal budget, once presented in the National Assembly, will be debated by lawmakers from both treasury and opposition benches before being voted on and passed ahead of the start of the new fiscal year on July 1.
