Gas cylinder explosion in Islamabad leaves two dead

Two people were burned to death while three others sustained injuries after a gas cylinder explosion sparked a fire at a house on Street 54 in Sector I-10/1, Islamabad, on Friday.

According to rescue officials, the explosion was caused by a gas leak in the first-floor kitchen of a house. The accumulated gas triggered a powerful cylinder blast, causing a fire to erupt inside the residence.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene shortly after the incident and shifted all five victims, including a woman, to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The deceased were identified as 45-year-old Shahid Yousafzai and 19-year-old Shehriyar, both residents of Swabi.

Police and rescue teams reached the scene as soon as they were informed and began rescue operations. An investigation into the incident is also underway.

According to the Director General of Capital Emergency Services, the accident occurred because of a substandard gas cylinder. The injured are currently being treated at the burn centre of Polyclinic Hospital.

Authorities have urged citizens to follow safety precautions while using gas cylinders and to use only standard-quality cylinders to prevent such tragic incidents.
