Government employees in Karachi will be able to enjoy a three day weekend after the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) announced a local holiday on June 8 for the annual Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi, according to reports on Thursday.
Local holiday announced in Karachi
According to an official notification issued by KMC’s Human Resources Department, 22 Zil Hajj 1447 AH will be observed as a local holiday in connection with the annual Urs celebrations. The day falls on Monday, June 8, of the next week.
The holiday will come after the regular weekly holidays on Saturday and Sunday. As a result, KMC employees will get three consecutive days off. This will give them time to rest and spend time with their families.
The notification stated that all offices operating under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will remain closed on the day.
However, departments that are involved in providing emergency and other essential services will continue to work as usual. This will be done to make sure that public services are not affected.
Every year, various religious and cultural events are held in Karachi during the Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi. Large numbers of devotees take part in these celebrations.
Officials have also said the local holiday has been announced to make it easier for residents and visitors to participate in the Urs events.
