The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, warning of severe weather conditions over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the NDMA, several cities in Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Sargodha, are expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, weather officials have forecast rain and thunderstorms in Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Malakand, and nearby areas.
The NDMA also expects rain, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorms in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Skardu, Hunza, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and other districts.
The authority warned that strong winds and hailstorms could damage weak buildings, trees, and other structures. It also cautioned that northern areas may face an increased risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), landslides, and rising water levels in rivers and streams.
According to the alert, landslides could affect major routes such as the Karakoram Highway, Naran Road, and Skardu Road, causing travel disruptions and affecting tourism activities in northern regions.
The NDMA has advised tourists and travellers to check weather forecasts and road conditions before travelling to northern areas.
The authority has also urged the public to stay informed through its mobile application, “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert,” while directing provincial and district administrations to remain on high alert and take necessary precautionary measures.
