Lahore and Karachi face intense heat, rain expected in Islamabad

Pakistan is experiencing extremely hot weather, especially in major cities like Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), temperatures remained very high on Monday. Some northern areas were expected to receive rain and thunderstorms later in the day.

In Lahore, the temperature was expected to rise to nearly 42 degrees Celsius. Hot and dry weather continue throughout the day. Humidity levels were around 42 per cent.

PMD warned that most districts of Punjab were likely to remain under severe heat conditions for the coming days.

Islamabad also experienced very warm conditions around 40 degrees Celsius during the daytime. However, the weather department predicted rainfall in the capital during the night. Winds in Islamabad were recorded at around nine kilometres per hour.

Meanwhile, Karachi continued facing hot and humid weather. Temperatures in the coastal city were expected to reach about 37 degrees Celsius. Humidity remained high at around 72 per cent.

In addition, according to officials strong winds could occur at different times during the day. Karachi’s air quality remained within satisfactory limits despite the heat. The pollution levels stayed below risky levels.

The report further stated that thunderstorms and rainfall were forecast for parts of Kashmir, Gilgit, and upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

NDMA high heat alert

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) also issued a weather advisory warning that temperatures across many parts of Pakistan are likely to keep increasing until May 23. However, scattered rain, windstorms, and isolated hailstorms may affect several northern and central regions between May 19 and May 22.

Authorities advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and remain careful during possible storms and winds.
