The Meteorological Department has issued a severe heatwave alert, warning that temperatures are expected to rise significantly across several parts of Punjab and the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region and Sindh over the coming days.
According to the forecast, temperatures are likely to range between 41°C and 44°C in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Gujrat from June 8 to 10.
Meanwhile, a more intense heatwave is expected in central Punjab, where temperatures could climb to 44°C to 48°C in Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, and Jhang from June 8 to 11.
Authorities have advised the public to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours, and stay well hydrated as extreme temperatures grip the region.
Meanwhile, in Karachi, extremely hot weather is expected from June 8 to 12, with temperatures likely to range between 40°C and 43°C. The intensity of the heat may continue during the night, and minimum temperatures are also expected to rise.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, temperatures are forecast to remain 4°C to 6°C above normal from June 8 to 11, with daytime temperatures in the province’s plains likely to reach 41°C to 46°C.
Meanwhile, temperatures in Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to range between 37°C and 40°C from June 8 to 10.
In Punjab, temperatures are predicted to remain 5°C to 7°C above normal in various districts. Temperatures are also expected to reach 44°C to 48°C in Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Pakpattan, and Rahim Yar Khan from June 8 to 11.
Similarly, temperatures are forecast to range between 44°C and 48°C in Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Layyah, Bhakkar, and Kot Addu from June 8 to 11, according to the Meteorological Department.
