With the start of summer holidays, the issue of summer camps has once again come under discussion. However, this time the Punjab government has issued a warning to school administrations across the province, including Lahore and Rawalpindi, stating that schools charging fees for summer camps may face closure.
The provincial government said that private schools will not be allowed to operate independently without following regulations. It warned that strict legal action will be taken against any institution violating the prescribed rules for summer camps. As a result, parents, students and school administrations are closely watching the Education Department’s next steps.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has taken strong notice of violations of SOPs regarding summer camps in private schools and has made it clear that full implementation of government instructions will be ensured under all circumstances.
He directed relevant officials to actively monitor private educational institutions and take immediate action against those found violating the rules.
The Education Minister has also issued a formal schedule for summer camps, according to which private schools are only allowed to conduct camps from Monday to Thursday between 7:00 am and 10:00 am.
He further said that this permission is limited to a period of one month only and any violation of the prescribed days or timings will not be tolerated and will result in strict action.
Rana Sikandar Hayat also warned private school administrations that no student can be forced to attend summer camps without written consent from parents.
He said school owners are not authorised to pressure students or parents in any way and participation in summer camps is completely voluntary, with parental consent being the top priority.
The provincial minister also appealed to parents to immediately contact the government complaint cell if any school violates official instructions. He added that every complaint will be reviewed and disciplinary action will be taken against the relevant institution where necessary.
