Ali Tareen alleges PSL 11 staff are still waiting to be paid

Former Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has said that some employees in the latest season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are yet to receive their salary despite the tournament being finished months ago.

In a post on X, Tareen asserted that the due of logistics officers, event staff, and many other people involved in the seamless conduct of the league haven’t been paid yet.

He didn’t reveal the exact number of workers impacted or the total amount that is allegedly owed, but his comments prompted a discussion among cricket fans and social media users.

The tweet has brought back into focus Pakistan’s top T20 tournament’s management and how it is operated.

Behind the scenes, staff from logistics officers to event workers are an essential part of the team that is organising a major sporting event.

They are responsible for the smooth flow of team movements, operations of the venue, match-day arrangements and efficiency of tournament activities.

Tareen’s remarks come at a time when he is having his own issues with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Earlier, he had refused to continue on as the owner of Multan Sultans as a result of disagreements with the board with regard to PSL and its commercial structure.

The PCB has not yet published a detailed response to Tareen’s latest allegations.

This has raised questions about whether people involved in the tournament are being paid their dues.

If it turns out to be true, pressure will be added onto the PSL organisers to clarify the situation and find out whether they have paid their workers or not.

It could also be a wider issue relating to temporary workers and event workers at large sports events, potentially damaging the league’s reputation and public image.
