The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a severe heatwave across the country starting today warning that weather conditions will remain extremely hot and dry in most plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar.
However, thunderstorms and rain are expected at isolated locations in Swat, Dir, Chitral and other upper districts.
The Met Office further predicted that temperatures may rise even further across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the coming days. In plain districts such as Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda and Dera Ismail Khan, temperatures could reach as high as 46°C.
According to the PMD, intense heat is likely to persist in Islamabad, northern Punjab and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until June 10, while a change in weather conditions is expected from June 11 and 12.
The department said that severe heat will continue in Islamabad and various parts of northern Punjab, while districts in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also remain under the influence of hot weather.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast rainfall in several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Punjab on June 11 and 12. Thunderstorms and rain are also expected in Rawalpindi, Lahore and other districts.
The PMD stated that rainfall is likely in Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Mansehra and Abbottabad on June 11 and 12. Thunderstorms are also expected in the Balochistan districts of Zhob and Musakhel.
In Sindh, hot weather is expected to continue in most districts, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana.
Earlier, a dry and intense heatwave-like weather began across Punjab, with forecasts predicting that the heat will further intensify in the coming days.
In the provincial capital, Lahore, the sun began showing its intensity early in the morning, with the temperature recorded at 33°C during the early hours.
The city’s minimum temperature is expected to remain around 27°C, while the maximum may rise up to 41°C.
Meteorologists say that not only daytime but nighttime temperatures are also increasing.
According to the forecast, temperatures are likely to range between 41°C and 44°C in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Gujrat from June 8 to 10.
