In Quetta, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Balochistan continued its boycott for the second consecutive day, suspending all services in government hospitals except emergency care to protest the acid attack on one of their female colleague.
The boycott has caused severe difficulties for patients seeking treatment and medical check-ups in hospitals across the city.
The Young Doctors Association has demanded the removal of the Health Secretary, the Medical Superintendent and the security in-charge of Civil Hospital Quetta.
They have also called for the formation of a judicial commission to ensure a transparent investigation into the incident.
The doctors further urged authorities to take effective measures to guarantee the safety and protection of medical staff in hospitals.
Dr Mahnoor, a postgraduate doctor at Civil Hospital Quetta, is currently hospitalised in Karachi, and around 70 per cent of her body was affected in the incident.
“Arrangements were made to provide the injured doctor with the best available medical facilities, and she has been transferred to Karachi for further treatment”, said the chief minister’s spokesman and adviser, Shahid Rind.
She suffered severe burn injuries to her face, chest, legs, and other parts of her body.
According to reports, the man who attacked her was a former employee of the hospital. According to the police, he was killed in an encounter.
The suspect reportedly knocked on the doctor’s room door and threw acid on her when she came out of the room.
