Fuel crisis persists in Quetta, authorities promise increased supply

fuel crisis hit Quetta

Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Mir Mehrullah Badini said efforts are underway to control the petrol shortage in the city, and supply has been increased.

Addressing a press conference in Quetta on Wednesday, he said most areas of Balochistan rely on Iranian petrol supply, and its disruption has worsened the crisis.

He added that there are 60 registered petrol pumps in Quetta, and the administration has contacted pump owners after taking notice of the shortage.

He said 400,000 litres of petrol were supplied to the city yesterday, while 600,000 litres are being ensured today. He added that it should not happen that petrol is available one day and unavailable the next.

Maharullah Badini said Iranian petrol is still not legally recognised, and its suspension has increased rush at petrol pumps.

He warned that mafias become active during such crises, and the district administration has started action against under-measuring and hoarding.

He further said mobile data services were suspended due to security concerns.

Meanwhile, the petrol shortage continues for the second consecutive day in the provincial capital. Most small and large petrol pumps remain closed, while long queues of cars and motorcycles are seen at the operational stations.

Citizens say they are ready to pay full price, yet fuel remains unavailable. Many reported leaving home without breakfast and waiting for hours in intense heat, worsening their difficulties.
