The Punjab Home Department has decided to request the deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel to ensure foolproof security during Muharram-ul-Haram.
According to official sources, the Punjab Home Department has written a letter to the Federal Ministry of Interior seeking the assistance of the armed forces and Rangers to help maintain law and order during the holy month.
Law enforcement agencies will assist in ensuring the peaceful observance of Muharram across the province.
In total, the services of 137 companies have been requested for deployment across 39 districts of Punjab. This includes 61 companies of the Pakistan Army and 76 companies of the Rangers.
According to the letter, the Army and Rangers personnel will be deployed from 1st to 11th Muharram, depending on the requirements of different districts.
Officials said the request has been made on the recommendation of the Punjab Police to support security arrangements and maintain peace during religious gatherings and processions.
