New developments have emerged in the case involving Pakistani actress Momina Iqbal and the Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Saqib Chadhar, on Wednesday.

The Punjab Bar Council heard an application seeking the suspension of the licences of Mian Ali Ashfaq, counsel for Saqib Chadhar, and Rimsha Iqbal, the sister of Momina Iqbal.

A four member disciplinary committee conducted the hearing. The committee was headed by Chairman Abbas Ali Chadhar.

MPA Saqib Chadhar appeared before the committee along with his lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq.

During the hearing, Saqib Chadhar told the committee that Mian Ali Ashfaq had spoken to the media on his instructions. He said that he had evidence to support all statements made by his lawyer.

Mian Ali Ashfaq further told the committee that he had only presented his client’s position to the media. He added that action was taken after Momina Iqbal shared material on social media.

He further added that a complaint was later filed with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and that they joined the inquiry on May 21.

He said that actress Momina Iqbal and her sister Rimsha Iqbal had spoken to the media first. Adding that his side responded afterwards. He also said that documentary evidence was available to support his claims.

Rimsha Iqbal told the committee that she stood by her sister, Momina Iqbal. She said the allegations made against her were false.

She also informed the committee that she was studying in Australia and worked extra hours alongside her studies.

During the proceedings, committee member Ghulam Abbas Chadhar said that two lawyers had turned a dispute between parties into a matter of personal ego.

The committee directed all lawyers connected with the case not to discuss the matter in the media. The Punjab Bar Council later adjourned the hearing until next week.

‘Momina Iqbal and I are being threatened’, Rimsha Iqbal

Actress Momina Iqbal’s sister, Rimsha Iqbal, has alleged that both sisters are being intimidated and threatened, and that unknown persons’ vehicles were sent to the house at night.

While talking to the media at the Punjab Bar Council, she said that the day before yesterday, a vehicle of unknown persons was sent to Momina’s in-laws. Adding that the unknown vehicle owner fled when the security provided by the government was alerted.

She said that people were sent to my house at night, and we are being intimidated and threatened. However, an application was submitted at the Chohang police station at night.

Rimsha Iqbal said that ‘baseless and false allegations were made against Momina Iqbal and me, and false applications are being made at different places. I will bravely fight my sister’s cases.’
